<span style="font-family: Arial"><h2 style="text-align: center">Veterinary Care Generalist - Rehabilitation</h2><h3 style="text-align: center">Veterinary Teaching Hospital</h3><br><h4>Job Summary</h4>The Veterinary Care Generalist–Rehabilitation provides standard paramedical technical support and nursing care for the Rehabilitation Service at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Responsibilities include general patient care, implementing individualized exercise and rehabilitation protocols, performing therapies and treatments, demonstrating techniques to clients, and serving as a liaison across hospital services. Additional duties include communicating patient progress, maintaining accurate medical records, admitting and discharging patients, managing supplies and equipment, and maintaining clean facilities. May be asked to assist in other areas at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. As part of a teaching hospital, this position also instructs professional and veterinary technician students in diagnostic, therapeutic, and emergency procedures. <h4>Duties &amp; Responsibilities</h4><ul><li>Learn to provide standard paramedical technical support<br>• Collaborate with specialists, students, interns, residents, and faculty to provide nursing care and rehabilitation treatments for acute and chronic cases.<br>• Assist with patient care in emergent and non-emergent situations using problem solving skills.<br>• Perform rehabilitation, orthopedic, and neurologic exams under specialist direction.<br>• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot rehabilitation equipment (underwater treadmill, land treadmill, ultrasound, e stim, laser, etc.).<br>• Perform and demonstrate rehabilitation modalities and identify abnormalities.<br>• Admit and discharge patients.<br>• Recognize abnormal physical findings, vital signs, respiratory distress, altered mentation, and signs of shock.<br>• Identify cardiopulmonary arrest and initiate CPR; perform basic and advanced life support as directed.<br>• Safely restrain and transport patients.<br>• Complete patient monitoring and treatments per care plan.<br>• Report abnormal findings to the veterinarian/specialist.<br>• Document treatments, procedures, supplies, medications, charges, and detailed medical record notes.</li></ul><ul><li>Learn to provide organizational support<br>• Enter charges for supplies and procedures into the EMR.<br>• Maintain rehabilitation treatment schedules.<br>• Assist with scheduling and client communication.<br>• Facilitate communication among clients, surgeons, students, receptionists, and other services.<br>• Support patient admissions and discharges within the service.</li></ul><ul><li>Learn to provide instruction<br>• Orient, direct, and instruct students and clinicians.<br>• Teach service procedures and problem solving skills related to patient care.</li></ul><ul><li>Learn to maintain workspace and equipment<br>• Perform routine cleaning and stocking; complete daily and weekly tasks.<br>• Assist with documenting and troubleshooting equipment issues.<br>• Provide paramedical technical support for clinical trials</li></ul><ul><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul><br><h4>Additional Physical Demands</h4>This position involves working in a potentially stressful environment and requires reliable performance under pressure. Physical exertion varies and may include transporting or supporting dogs weighing 60 lbs or more. Animal handling carries inherent risk, requiring strength and caution. Duties may involve exposure to animal waste, bodily fluids, syringes, needles, medications, anesthetic agents, chemicals, and infectious agents. Individuals with allergies to animal dander or environmental allergens may experience discomfort.<h4>Minimum Qualifications</h4><p>Successful completion or current enrollment in the final semester of a veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).</p><h4>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</h4><ul><li>Knowledge of federal, university, and hospital regulations regarding controlled substances.</li><li>Skill in operating rehabilitation equipment.</li><li>Ability to adapt to new technologies, procedures, and equipment.</li><li>Strict adherence to protocols.</li><li>Ability to instruct students in patient care and equipment use.</li><li>Ability to recognize abnormal vital signs and take appropriate action when a veterinarian is unavailable.</li><li>Ability to anticipate clinical needs and support staff and students.</li><li>Strong observational, recording, and data management skills.</li><li>Ability to explain veterinary terminology.</li><li>Ability to multitask, maintain attention to detail, and work professionally under pressure.</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills; courteous and polite.</li></ul><h4>Appointment Information</h4><p>This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 4080 - Veterinary Care Generalist position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible.&nbsp;The<br>collective bargaining agreement sets a wage of $23.24 per hour. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
