This position, Senior Mechanical Engineer (P3), is responsible for developing design and module requirements, designing parts and mechanisms in CAD with SolidWorks, assembling parts, testing, and documenting work and results. Work is performed in a team environment consisting of various engineering disciplines, project managers, and technicians. This position reports to the Head of Automation Hardware and is part of Automation team located in Indianapolis, IN and will be an on-site role. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: - Develop biotech products from concept through release and sustainment, translating user needs and design requirements into robust solutions.
- Design parts/mechanisms, create assemblies, generate drawings with SolidWorks, and own mechanical architecture elements of complex instrumentation.
- Fabricate and assemble components, characterize designs, and execute design verification activities.
- Present findings and recommendations and participate in design reviews.
The essential requirements of the job include: - B.S. or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years (B.S.) or 3+ years (M.S.) of industry experience designing and developing products.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks CAD, GD&T, and documentation of design.
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles (statics, dynamics, materials, fluids, thermodynamics, etc.).
- Strong knowledge and experience in motion systems, mechatronics, and handson experience with prototyping, machining, 3D printing, or assembly.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements: - Ability to travel up to 10% domestic and internationally.
- Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 20lb.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in: - Demonstrated teamwork, communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively.
- Mechanical assemblies and systems design of laboratory instrumentation.
- SolidWorks modeling of machined, sheet metal, and injection molded parts.
- Strong understanding of current manufacturing processes for low volume, high mix products
- Materials selection for reliability and chemical compatibility.
- Scripting languages such as Python.
- ISO quality systems related to design control and product release.
